Steve Mink
Steve Mink has been working in film and video for more than 25 years. A graduate of Ithaca College in 1984, he first got a taste of deadline television as an Intern at WNEV TV in Boston on a live two-hour magazine show called "New England Afternoon." After Graduation, Mink got a unit manager position with the PBS program “Modern Maturity." He ended up producing more than 50 on-air segments as a field producer for the program.
Mink moved on to a position with the Kamber Group, where he wrote and produced various programs for many associations and labor unions. During his times, having edited many of his own programs, he realized his love for the editing proces. In 1989, he made the leap to being an independent producer and off-line editor.
In the early 90s, Steve had opportunities to work in various forms of new media. He co-produced and edited “MCI World News” for the long-distance telephone company. It was distributed via satellite to employees all over the world, and had a live call-in portion with company executives. In addition, Mink co-produced live trade shows for MCI, using talent working in Reston, VA, communicating on satellite hookup while shows were performed live as far away as Tokyo.
During this period, he began editing the programs on the new non-linear software called AVID. This exciting software enabled him to be creative and he ended up producing multi-screen programs, and also opened up the world of political advertising to him. As Mink became proficient and known as a “producer’s-editor”, he caught the attention of Henninger Video, which was beginning its “non-linear” department and needed his talents to grow the unit.
While at Henninger, Steve not only taught the AVID software at its instructional department, he also worked on all varieties of video, from national commercials for car companies, to documentaries for the National Gallery of Art. His interest in political advertising was his first love, and he continued to perfect his skills in that realm.
In 1998, Mink left Henninger to start Georgetown Post. Georgetown Post used the speed of non-linear editing to enable our political customers to get commercials on the air quickly and efficiently. In the 10 years since GTP’s beginning, we have produced, mixed and edited thousands of programs, commercials and radio spots for Democrats all over the United States, including John Edwards, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Along with the political work, Mink was nominated as a top-5 finalist for the 2003 Academy Awards in short-form documentary category for editing “Dr. Garrett,” the story of a young African-American woman as she enters medical school in Baltimore. Steve enjoys the process of working with his clients in a collaborative role, and the experience of working on long-form projects such as “Dr. Garrett” was very satisfying.
Georgetown Post is unique in that it combines the comfort and personal service of a “boutique” production facility, along with the location, staff and facilities that larger production firms offer. As we look toward the future, Steve and GTP are actively looking for better ways to serve our clients and their media communication needs.
Georgetown Post continues to be known for its professional attitude and commitment to quality and timeliness. Steve Mink is proud to be working with such a great group.
Steve has been married to Barbara for 20 years and has two daughters, Lucy and Sara. He lives in Annandale, VA.
